The Best Shoei RF-SR 2 Full Face Motorcycle Helmet for Avid Motorcycle Enthusiasts.
About the Shoei RF-SR 2
The Shoei RF-SR 2 is Shoei's value full face motorcycle helmet - hand-built in Japan, certified to Snell M2025D and DOT, and shipped with a CWR-1 shield and Pinlock® EVO anti-fog lens included. It sells for $499.99 in six colors and six sizes, X-Small through 2X-Large.
The RF-SR 2 exists for the rider who wants a real Shoei on a bike they ride every day. It shares the brand's core engineering - multiple shell sizes, an AIM+ composite shell, fully replaceable interior, EQRS emergency cheek pad release - without the premium you pay for the RF-1400's lighter shell or the X-15's race aerodynamics.
If you've been riding a $200 helmet and wondering what the fuss is about, this is the honest entry point to the brand. It's the cheapest way to find out whether a Shoei fits your head better than what you're wearing now.
Shoei RF-SR 2 Colors
The RF-SR 2 comes in six solid colors: Black, White, Basalt Gray, Matte Black, Matte Deep Gray, and Matte Blue Metallic. All six are the same price - $499.99 - in every size.
| Color | Finish | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Black | Gloss | The default. Easiest to keep looking new, easiest to touch up. |
| White | Gloss | Most visible to traffic in daylight. Shows road grime fastest. |
| Basalt Gray | Gloss | Mid-tone gray. Hides bug strike and light scuffing well. |
| Matte Black | Matte | The volume seller in matte. Needs matte-safe cleaner, never wax. |
| Matte Deep Gray | Matte | Darker, flatter alternative to Basalt Gray. |
| Matte Blue Metallic | Matte | The only color in the range. Metallic flake under a matte clear. |
What Changed From the Original RF-SR
The RF-SR 2 reduces aerodynamic drag and lift, adds larger vent shutters with half-open positions, upgrades to Shoei's 3D Custom Interior System, and moves from Snell M2020 to Snell M2025D.
| Area | RF-SR | RF-SR 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Aerodynamics | Baseline shell | Reshaped for lower drag and lift at speed |
| Ventilation | Fixed-position shutters | Larger shutters, half-open detents, 3 intake / 2 exhaust |
| Interior | Standard removable liner | 3D Custom Interior System, soft brushed fabric |
| Certification | Snell M2020 | Snell M2025D and DOT FMVSS No. 218 |
| Shield | CWR-1 | CWR-1 with QR-E base plate, Pinlock EVO included |
The practical upshot: it's more stable when you turn your head at highway speed, and you can actually manage airflow instead of choosing between fully open and fully shut. If you own an RF-SR and it still fits and hasn't been dropped, the RF-SR 2 is an improvement but not an emergency.
Shoei RF-SR 2 vs RF-1400 vs X-15
Buy the RF-SR 2 for value and everyday street riding, the RF-1400 for lighter weight and lower wind noise on long days, and the X-15 for track and aggressive sport riding.

|---|---|---|---|
| Built for | Street, commuting, sport | Sport-touring, all-day street | Racing, track days |
| Shell | AIM+ | AIM+ | AIM+ |

Shoei RF-SR 2 Sizing & Fit
The RF-SR 2 runs true to size in an intermediate-oval head shape and comes in XS, S, M, L, XL, and XXL. Measure the largest part of your head about an inch above your eyebrows, and if you land between sizes, size down.
Because Shoei builds multiple shell sizes per model rather than padding out one shell, a correctly sized RF-SR 2 sits evenly all the way around with no hot spots - and it looks proportioned on your head rather than oversized. A new helmet should feel firm; the liner breaks in roughly 15-20% over the first several rides.
If the shell size is right but the cheeks feel loose after break-in, a thicker cheek pad set costs a fraction of a new helmet. It's the most common fix we recommend, and it's why fully replaceable interiors matter more than most riders realize at purchase.
RF-SR 2 Shields, Pinlock & Replacement Parts
The Shoei RF-SR 2 uses the CWR-1 shield on a QR-E base plate. Clear, tinted, mirrored, and photochromic CWR-1 shields all fit, and the Pinlock® EVO DKS301 lens insert is included with the helmet.
Note that the CWR-1 is not the same shield as the RF-1400 and X-15, which use the CWR-F2. If you're moving over from an RF-1400, your old shields and tinted visors will not transfer.
- CWR-1 shields - clear, dark smoke, light smoke, mirrored, photochromic
- Pinlock® EVO lens inserts (DKS301)
- RF-SR 2 cheek pads and center pads in multiple thicknesses
- Comfort liners and interior kits
- QR-E base plate kits, breath guards, chin curtains
See the Shoei shield & Pinlock guide for fitment, or call us with your model and we'll confirm the right part.
Bluetooth for the RF-SR 2 - Installed Before It Ships
We install Bluetooth communication systems in-house. Order an RF-SR 2 with a Sena or Cardo headset already fitted, wired, and tested, and it arrives ready to ride.
The RF-SR 2's speaker pockets accept universal systems from Sena and Cardo. This is where we differ from most online retailers - instead of fighting adhesive pads and speaker depth on your kitchen table, add our Shoei headset installation service and we do it here before the box goes out.
Who the RF-SR 2 Is For
Straight answer, because it saves returns:
- Buy it if you commute or ride sport/standard bikes, you want Snell-level certification, and you want a Shoei that fits properly without spending RF-1400 money.
- Buy it if your current helmet has never fit right - Shoei's multiple shell sizes are the single biggest reason riders switch and stay.
- Look elsewhere if you want a built-in sun visor - get the GT-Air 3.
- Look elsewhere if you tour all day and wind noise is your top complaint - the RF-1400 and Neotec 3 are quieter.
- Look elsewhere if you have a distinctly round or distinctly long-oval head - call us first, and consider Arai or HJC.
Shoei RF-SR 2 FAQs
How much does the Shoei RF-SR 2 cost?
$499.99 for every color and every size, X-Small through 2X-Large.
What colors does the Shoei RF-SR 2 come in?
Six solid colors: Black, White, Basalt Gray, Matte Black, Matte Deep Gray, and Matte Blue Metallic. There are no graphic schemes in the RF-SR 2 range.
Is the Shoei RF-SR 2 in stock?
Colors are arriving on a rolling schedule through summer 2026. Live availability for each color and size is shown on the product page - and we'll take a pre-order so you're in line for the size you need.
What comes in the box with the RF-SR 2?
The helmet with a clear CWR-1 shield already fitted, and a Pinlock® EVO (DKS301) anti-fog lens insert.
Is the Shoei RF-SR 2 a good first helmet?
It's an excellent first premium helmet. It's Snell M2025D and DOT certified, fits precisely because Shoei uses multiple shell sizes, and every pad is replaceable so you can adjust the fit as it breaks in. The only reason to start cheaper is budget.
Is the Shoei RF-SR 2 quiet?
It's reasonably quiet for a sport full face, and better sealed than most helmets near its price. It is not the quietest Shoei - the RF-1400, GT-Air 3, and Neotec 3 all beat it. No helmet is quiet at highway speed; wear earplugs regardless.
Does the RF-SR 2 have a drop-down sun visor?
No. The RF-SR 2 is a single-shield helmet. For an internal sun visor, look at the GT-Air 3, Neotec 3, or J-Cruise 3.
Does the Shoei RF-SR 2 work with glasses?
It will accommodate most frames, but it isn't cut with dedicated eyewear channels the way the Neotec 3 and GT-Air 3 are. If you wear glasses every ride, those two are the better buy.
Can I use the RF-SR 2 for track days?
Yes - it carries Snell M2025D, which most track organizations require. That said, the X-15 is the purpose-built race helmet, with better aerodynamics at speed and a tuck-optimized eyeport.
Where is the Shoei RF-SR 2 made?
Japan. Every Shoei helmet is hand-assembled and individually inspected there; Shoei has never outsourced production.
Do CWR-F2 shields fit the RF-SR 2?
No. The RF-SR 2 uses the CWR-1 shield. The CWR-F2 fits the RF-1400 and X-15 and is not interchangeable.
Is the matte finish harder to look after?
Yes. Matte paint holds bug residue and shows scuffs more than gloss, and any wax or polish will permanently shine a matte panel. Use a matte-safe cleaner and it holds up fine.
Do you sell genuine Shoei helmets?
Yes - brand new, genuine, with full manufacturer warranty. No closeouts, seconds, or gray-market stock.
